85 places This weekend in Huntsville

Huntsville earned the name Rocket City when the Saturn V was designed here, and that space-age story still runs through the place, from the U.S. Space & Rocket Center to the engineers who fill its brewery patios after work. But the city is more than rockets. Downtown wraps around Big Spring Park, the historic Twickenham and Old Town neighborhoods hold some of the oldest homes in the state, and Monte Sano Mountain rises right at the edge of town with trails and big views over the Tennessee Valley.

Start with the museums and attractions, then spend an afternoon at Lowe Mill, a former textile mill packed with working artist studios and galleries. Campus No. 805, a former middle school turned into a cluster of breweries, bars and live music, is where a lot of evenings end up. For food, Huntsville does barbecue, Southern cooking and a growing list of Asian and Latin kitchens, plus plenty of independent coffee shops for the morning.
