Downtown Huntsville grew up around the Big Spring, and the park around it is still the center of the action, with walking paths, the lagoon and the Huntsville Museum of Art on its edge. The Von Braun Center hosts concerts, hockey and Broadway tours, and the blocks around the courthouse square are packed with restaurants, cocktail bars and shops. The Twickenham Historic District, just southeast, holds some of the oldest homes in Alabama, and the Panoply Arts Festival fills Big Spring Park each spring.
