Downtown Madison is the heart of the Madison Station Historic District, where the town grew up around a depot on the Memphis and Charleston Railroad. Main Street has two blocks of brick commercial buildings, including an 1859 mercantile, now home to restaurants and small shops, and the surrounding streets are lined with Queen Anne, Folk Victorian and Craftsman homes. Visit the 1858 Clay House Museum, then come back in October for the Madison Street Festival, which fills the district with arts, crafts and family activities.
