Downtown Mobile is the oldest part of the city and the easiest to explore on foot. Dauphin Street is the main spine, lined with 1800s buildings with cast iron galleries, and it leads past Bienville Square and Cathedral Square, the two classic green spaces. The History Museum of Mobile and the reconstructed Fort Condé sit near the waterfront, and the Mobile Carnival Museum is a short walk away on Government Street. Evenings bring a lively mix of bars and live music and restaurants, and during Mardi Gras the parades roll right through these streets.
