About
The Huntsville Marriott at the Space & Rocket Center is the closest you can sleep to Huntsville’s most famous attraction. The hotel sits on the grounds of the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, with the Davidson Center (home of the Saturn V moon rocket) and the Space Camp training facilities right next door. Its address, 5 Tranquility Base, is a nod to the Apollo 11 landing site, and the whole setting leans into the city’s rocket history.
This is a full-service Marriott rather than a boutique stay, and it fills up with Space Camp families, school groups, NASA and defense visitors, and conference attendees. The property backs up to a wooded area with walking trails, which gives it a quieter feel than its location along Interstate 565 might suggest.
Rooms and Amenities
Guest rooms are set up in the familiar Marriott style, with down duvets and pillows, work desks and mobile key access through the Marriott Bonvoy app. Around the property you will find:
- Pool: a heated pool overlooking the courtyard, open seasonally.
- Fitness center: complimentary for hotel guests.
- Meeting space and business center: useful if you are in town for a conference or a training program.
- Gift shop and convenience store: handy for snacks and forgotten essentials.
Wi-Fi is free for Marriott Bonvoy members, so join the free program before check-in.
Dining
Southern Chop is the hotel restaurant, a casual spot that mixes steakhouse dishes with Southern cooking, Gulf seafood and farm-to-table plates. It serves breakfast every day and dinner most nights, but it does not serve lunch. In the lobby, the Barrel Room is a bourbon-focused lounge that opens late morning and stays open until midnight, a good place for a nightcap after a long museum day. In-room dining is also available.
Location
The biggest draw is that you can walk to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center museum, the Saturn V hall and Space Camp without getting in the car. NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center is just beyond, on Redstone Arsenal. Huntsville International Airport is about 7 miles away. Bridge Street Town Centre, with its shops and restaurants, is a short drive west on I-565, and downtown Huntsville, including the Von Braun Center, the Huntsville Museum of Art and Big Spring Park, is a short drive east. The Huntsville Botanical Garden is close by as well.
Good to Know Before You Book
- Space Camp weeks: if you are dropping off or picking up a camper, book early. Graduation days and summer sessions are busy here.
- Parking: self-parking is on site for a daily fee.
- Pets: pets are not allowed.
- Meals: since Southern Chop skips lunch, plan to eat at the museum or head into town midday.
If your Huntsville trip is built around the Space Center, staying here saves real time and makes it easy to duck back to the room between exhibits.
