About
The Admiral Hotel stands on Government Street in downtown Mobile, a short walk from the Dauphin Street bars and restaurants. The building opened in 1940 as the Hotel Admiral Semmes and was one of the founding hotels in the Historic Hotels of America program. It took its current name in 2015 after a major renovation.
Today the Admiral runs as an independent hotel, and its look leans into Mobile’s French colonial roots. It has a more intimate scale than the big convention hotels downtown, with a steakhouse, a cocktail lounge and a café on the ground floor, and a pool out back. It is a comfortable pick for a weekend in the city, a Mardi Gras stay or a night before a cruise.
Rooms and Amenities
Rooms range from standard kings and two-double rooms to Premier rooms and a set of larger suites, including one-bedroom, two-bedroom and Royal suites. Standard rooms run from about 288 to 320 square feet, while the two-bedroom suite is about 1,300 square feet and sleeps six. Every room has a mini-fridge, coffee maker, HDTV and free high-speed Wi-Fi, and suite guests get nightly turndown service.
- Pool: an outdoor pool open year-round, daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Fitness: a 24-hour fitness center.
- Pets: dogs up to 50 pounds are welcome and get a welcome kit with bowls, a mat and a treat.
- Accessibility: accessible king rooms are available.
Dining
Le Moyne’s Chophouse is the hotel’s steakhouse and the main dinner draw, and Royal Suite guests get priority seating there. The Living Room is the cocktail lounge for a drink before or after dinner. Le Café serves French-inspired breakfast starting at 7 a.m., with coffee and pastries. Breakfast is included only with some rate plans, so check yours.
Location
The Admiral sits in the heart of downtown, close to most of what visitors come to see:
- Dauphin Street entertainment district: about 2 blocks
- Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception: about 0.2 miles
- Arthur R. Outlaw Mobile Convention Center: about a 10-minute walk
- USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park: about 2 miles
- Mobile Regional Airport: about 20 to 30 minutes by car
The hotel is also one of the closest upscale options to the Mobile Cruise Terminal, which makes it a natural choice for a pre-cruise or post-cruise night. During Carnival, Government Street is on the Mardi Gras parade route, so you can step outside and catch the parades.
Good to Know Before You Book
Check-in is at 4 p.m. and checkout is at 11 a.m. Early check-in and late checkout depend on occupancy, so call ahead to ask. Parking is valet only, with in-and-out privileges, and there are public garages downtown if you prefer. Expect a card hold for the stay plus incidentals at check-in. Cancellations within 48 hours of arrival are charged one night plus tax.
If you are coming for Mardi Gras, book early and ask for a room facing the parade route.
