About

Kingfisher Seafood Restaurant occupies 805 S. Mobile St. in Fairhope, Alabama, bringing Louisiana-rooted Gulf Coast cooking to the Eastern Shore under the tagline “From Gulf to Plate, It Can’t Get Fresher Than This.” The dining room and menu both lean hard into the seafood traditions of New Orleans and the Louisiana coast, reworked for a Fairhope crowd.

Appetizers set an ambitious tone. Black Jack Oysters arrive in pepper jack cream sauce with crumbled bacon and pickled jalapenos, while Traditional Oysters come in a spicy, herb-infused stock under an Italian cheese blend. Crawfish Cheese Fries are topped with a crawfish pepper jack sauce and fried crawfish tails, Boudin Eggrolls make a Cajun staple portable, and Fried Green Tomatoes get a crawfish ravigote and balsamic reduction rather than the standard remoulade.

Soup and salad options include a Crab and Brie soup, a Seafood Gumbo, and a separate Chicken and Sausage Gumbo, each available in small or large bowls. The Hawaiian Seafood Salad is one of the more distinctive builds on the menu, combining salmon poke, krab stick, mango, tomatoes, and cucumber over a spring mix base.

The seafood entrees show off the kitchen’s technique. The Pontchartrain pairs a paneed drum filet with crabmeat and a caper hollandaise, the Andouille Encrusted Fish tops the same drum filet with crawfish tails, mushrooms, and an andouille cream, and the Drum on the Half Shell is served skin-on and scale-on with Creole seasoning and a white wine garlic butter. For the meat eaters, a 12-ounce Angus ribeye, a bone-in pork chop finished with port wine reduction, and lamb chops sit under the menu’s “Turf” heading.

Sandwiches and po’boys lean traditional. The Fried Shrimp Po’Boy and Fried Catfish Po’Boy both use hand-battered Gulf seafood on Leidenheimer bread, the Roast Beef Po’Boy comes New Orleans debris-style with gravy, and the Kingfisher Club and T-Bird Sandwich give non-seafood eaters their own build with grilled or blackened chicken, bacon, and Swiss.

The specialties section is where the kitchen’s Louisiana influence is most obvious, with a Seafood Lasagna built on jumbo lump crab, Gulf shrimp, and crawfish tails in a ricotta cream sauce, a Shrimp and Grits, a Crawfish Etouffee, and Catfish Perdu, which pairs two hand-battered catfish filets with crawfish etouffee over rice. Fried seafood platters of shrimp, catfish, or a half-and-half combination come with coleslaw, hush puppies, and French fries, and dessert closes things out with a Brownie with Praline Sauce, White Chocolate Bread Pudding, and an Oreo Cheesecake.

The appetizer list runs deeper still, with Blackened Alligator and Fried Alligator alongside Fried Crabfingers and Sauteed Crabfingers for diners who want the Louisiana bayou represented on the same menu as the Gulf. Crabmeat Stuffed Mushrooms, Buffalo Wings, Onion Rings, Spinach & Artichoke Dip served with fried bow-tie pasta, and Fried Mozzarella with marinara, pesto, and a balsamic reduction round out the starters. On the side, Red Beans & Rice, Mac & Cheese, a Stuffed Potato, Creamed Spinach, Sweet Potato Mash, and Hush Puppies give every entree a long list of ways to fill out the plate, and the specialties section adds a Bacon-Wrapped BBQ Shrimp & Jambalaya and a Shrimp, Crawfish, Crabmeat, and Andouille Pasta sauteed in andouille cream over fettuccine.

A kids menu keeps things simple with chicken, shrimp, catfish, noodles, and grilled cheese options, and a rotating lunch specials board has featured a Chicken Jacque alongside other daily dishes. Kingfisher is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Reservations and online ordering both run through Toast, and gift cards are available for purchase either in person or online.
