Alleyway Entertainment
About
Albertville, Alabama gained a new gathering spot when Alleyway Entertainment opened its doors on Mathis Mill Road, bringing bowling, axe throwing, and golf simulators together under one roof. The venue was founded by Don Spurlin, a longtime Albertville resident and businessman who built the center as what he has called his legacy to the community, a place meant to give families a reason to gather, celebrate, and belong without having to leave home to find it.
The name itself carries a bit of local history. It nods to a local band, WARM, which once recorded a song titled “Alleyway,” and to a record store that later opened in a nearby mall under that same name. That connection to Albertville’s own musical past gives the entertainment center a sense of place beyond its function as a spot to bowl a few frames or throw an axe at a target.
Bowling sits at the center of the operation, with lanes available by the hour rather than by the game, an approach that works well for groups. During the summer schedule, a lane runs 35 dollars an hour Sunday through Thursday and on Friday afternoons before 5 p.m., rising to 45 dollars an hour on Friday evenings after 5 p.m. and on Saturdays. Each lane accommodates up to six people, which makes it easy for a group of friends or a family to split the cost of an evening out rather than paying by the game.
Axe throwing is the second major draw, set up in dedicated lanes separate from the bowling area and priced at 45 dollars per lane per hour. It gives visitors a chance to try something outside the usual bowling alley routine, with staff on hand to walk newcomers through the basics of grip and stance before they start throwing at the target boards.
For golfers, or anyone curious about the technology, the center also runs golf simulator bays at 50 dollars per hour. The simulators let players work on their swing or play a round on a virtual course without leaving Albertville, a rare offering for a town this size and one more example of how the venue tries to give the community options that used to require a drive out of town.
A snack bar rounds out the experience, keeping visitors fed and hydrated through longer visits without requiring them to leave the building. The center has also run seasonal specials tied to holidays, including a Fourth of July promotion that dropped bowling games (with shoe rental included), hot dogs, and sodas to 2.50 dollars each, with the first bowler to roll a score of 250 or better that day winning a 250 dollar prize.
Hours run late into the evening throughout the week. During the summer schedule, the center is open from 10 in the morning until 10 at night Sunday through Thursday, and stretches to midnight on Friday and Saturday. That late weekend closing time makes it a natural stop for groups looking for something to do after dinner, when many other options around town have already closed for the night.
Party packages are available for birthdays and other celebrations, giving families a single venue where bowling, axe throwing, and simulator golf can all be part of the same event. Since opening, Alleyway Entertainment has positioned itself as one of the few indoor entertainment venues of its kind in Albertville, filling a gap that once meant a trip to a larger city for an evening of bowling or axe throwing. For visitors and residents alike, it offers a straightforward, locally rooted answer to the question of what there is to do on a weeknight or weekend in Marshall County.
